Description
The IPAT consists of 104 pairs of short jokes. Respondents select a joke from each pair that they perceive to be funnier.

Measures humor-related characteristics across 13 dimensions: (1) introversion–extraversion; (2) dry wit–good natured play; (3) compensation–tough self-composure; (4) flirtatious playfulness–gruesomeness; (5) urbane pleasantness–hostile degradation, (6) high anxiety–low anxiety, (7) theatricalism–cold realism; (8) light-hearted humor–ponderous humor; (9) damaging retort–unexpected, “off-beat” humor; (10) cheerful independence–mistreatment humor; (11) anxious concern–evasion of responsibility; (12) rebound against feminine aggression–scorn of ineffectual male; (13) dullness–general intelligence.

Reliability

Split half reliabilities range from .18 to .50; test-retest reliabilities between .20 to .58.
