International Society for Humor Studies Membership
Through October 25, 2025, you can apply or renew online for 2025 ISHS membership. We offer two levels of membership: Regular membership with a either a print or online subscription to the Society's journal, HUMOR, and Associate membership, which includes all benefits without a journal subscription. Online payments can be made by credit card (VISA, MasterCard, American Express, and Discover). Please note that all online transactions will include a 3% plus $1 transaction fee. If you wish to pay by check the old fashioned way via paper form, please contact the ISHS Executive Secretary, Martin Lampert, at humorstudies@outlook.com.
Membership in the International Society for Humor Studies is open to educators, health professionals, managers, writers, performers, students, and others interested in the advancement of humor studies and research. Members receive:
- a subscription to the quarterly journal, Humor: International Journal of Humor Research
- reduced registration fees to annual ISHS International Humor Conferences
- reduced fees to ISHS-sponsored workshops and seminars
- discounts on books in the Humor Research series published by DeGruyter, the Humor in Life and Letters series published by Wayne State Press, the Humor Studies series published by Taylor and Francis, and selected titles from other publishing houses, including John Benjamins
- access to bibliographies of humor research across major disciplines
- a membership list with regularly updated contact information
ISHS is pleased to provide to all of our new and continuing members for 2025 the choice of either a print or online subscription to the 38th volume of the Society's journal, HUMOR. All Regular Members who renew on or before February 1 for the 2025 membership year, may renew for a print or an electronic online subscription to HUMOR with a $5 discount. After February 1, the fees increase to the regular pricing.
Humor scholars who wish to be a part of the ISHS network, but cannot afford full dues may join the Society as an Associate member. Associate members pay only $30 and receive our newsletter, membership directories, bibliography access, book discounts, and ISHS Conference discounts, but do not receive the Society's journal.

The International Society for Humor Studies maintains directories of all Regular and Associate ISHS members with their addresses and telephone numbers. Our website lists contain only the names and affiliations for ISHS Members and Associates from 2020 through 2024 plus the editors for the Society's journal, HUMOR. Current ISHS members may request the complete membership directory with all contact information from the ISHS Executive Secretary.
